Keeping true to the values and elements of its intended original form, Hip Hop is the medium at the core of our mission, vision, and action. Step into your power, it's time to transform!
You may ask, what's Edutainment? Simply, it is the art of infusing entertainment into education under the expeditionary learning paradigm. Popularized by the Hip Hop legend KRS-ONE, recent data has shown that combining engaging (i.e. games, popular media) and relatable content with state standards leads to a remarkable interactive experience for the student and teacher. Scholarly studies have proven that Edutainment improve the maturation of the frontal lobe which is responsible for executive functioning(1) and decreases undesirable behaviors like being disruptive, sleeping, and chronic absenteeism(2). A unique and key deliverable attached to our "coolriculum" is Tha Hip Hop Olympics. Attached to our ELA and Math courses, this is a data designed approach within the UDL (universal design for learning) and Expeditionary Learning paradigms to Edutain scholars in all demographics.
Tha Hip Hop Olympics is a collaborative competition with events forged by the Ten Elements of Hip Hop. They are DJing, EMCEEing, BREAKDANCING, GRAFFITI, BEAT BOXING, STREET FASHION, STREET LANGUAGE, STREET ENTREPRENEURSHIP, STREET KNOWLEDGE and SELF DEFENSE. Participants will compete for a Gold, Silver, or Bronze medal in each of these ten events on the last weekend of May or first weekend in June each year.
